A: On November 21, 1984, I enlisted in the United States Army. My MOS was in communications. Initially, I was stationed at Fort Polk, LA assigned to an Engineer Unit. I had heard that Fort Polk was a terrible location. I agreed. Two years later, I was transferred to a Patriot Missile Unit in Gieblstadt Germany. Another garden spot followed, and I first went to Fort Stewart, GA with another Engineer Unit. This assignment coincided with Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait and I was immediately deployed to Saudi Arabia (Fort Polk didn’t look so bad). Following Desert Storm, my Expiration Term of Service was May 5,1991. I earned the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (2), Southwest Asia Service Medal w/3 Bronze Stars & Kuwait Liberation Medal.

A: At a job fair I learned of a new state of the art data center associated with UPS in Alpharetta --700,000 sq ft of IBM Mainframes, IBM AS400s, STK Storage Silos, EMC DASD, and a huge Windows’ Server Farm” – all things that appealed to a computer person. I sat up an interview for the following day, went, and was hired on the spot. Within 6 months I was a 1 Unit Manager and within 2 years I was promoted to a 2 Unit Manager with operations in Alpharetta, Georgia; Paramus NJ and Mahwah NJ. While working for UPS, I obtained a Masters Degree in Computer Science.
